1. Could you please tell us little bit more about yourself, about your growth curve and getting to where you want to?
I was born on the 4th of November 1981 in Dubai. My father was a musician in one of the best bands in Dubai, so from a very young age I was always surrounded with music and learnt a lot. This passion and love for music later developed into a discipline. My first instrument was the Piano, which I learnt under the guidance of Chris Perry till grade v. It wasn't until when I was 14 years old that I decided that guitar was the instrument for me. You can visit www.elvisrumionmusic.com for lots of videos and cool stuff.
2. You are a perfect example who is way ahead of others in turning imaginations into actions. Can you please share with us during all these formative years of yours, at any point, had you ever thought you would reach where you are right now?
Thank you! Having musical family background I think helped me a lot from a very young age, I knew that it would take a lot of dedication and hours of practice every single day to be able to get where I want to be musically. Tune in to All India radio 105.4 fm all this month and catch the exclusive release of "Loose your Illusions"
3. Your appetite for life to achieve more looks like insatiable; can you please shed some light when exactly you decided to pursue your dreams?
I came to Goa in the year 2000 and did a few courses in multi media, (those qualifications kept my parents happy) after that I had all the time in the world to sit with my guitar and practice. I used to practice for 6- 9 hours everyday. I had the choice of an office job which might have been the easier option but my first love was music and in life one must always stay true to oneself.
4. While doing some research on you, I realized that at a young age, you always wanted to make it big, who was your role model then and who is it now?
My role model has always been Jesus Christ and my lyrics reflect that. My Musical influences are the Beatles, Jimmy Hendrix, Stevie ray vaughn etc.....
5. As people say success begets success and without doubt it aptly applies for you. Could you please let us know about the secret of your amazing success as you made such a quick rise? Can you please share the same with our readers?
The secret of success is to believe in what you love and never give up till you get it, this involves a lot of dedication, sacrifice long hours of practice and mediation.
6. To say the least your journey must have been a saga of ups and downs. Could you please share with us the first hand recount of your not so happy yet enriching experiences? Can you please enlighten our viewers/readers the major hurdles you faced and how did you overcome them?
Someone once told me "the hardest thing about being a musician, is being a musician !" and that is so true because many times the biggest obstacles you face are in your mind, that can only be overcome through positive thinking. It helps if you are surrounded by good people to help you along the way.
7. In such a short span of time you have achieved a lot which brought laurels from all corners for you. With all these impressive un-ending list of achievements, which honors gives you maximum satisfaction?
I have just finished working on the music for a documentary on the Taj Mahal. It has been a great honor to be able to compose the music befitting to our greatest Monument and one of the worlds seven wonders. This is a fantastic documentary about the destructions caused to the Taj Mahal by all the pollution given off by hundreds of factories in Agra, and how a supreme court lawyer managed to shut down these factories and thus in turn save our Taj Mahal
8. Your fans, say you are an eternal optimistic by nature who always strives for perfection. People generally take a while in learning power of disagreements but you are known for even taking criticism as an opportunity to improve. Could you please share with us the toughest Criticism you have ever received?
It is tough at times to believe in yourself when the people around you don't. It took me a while to get comfortable with the sound of my voice, but I knew that giving up was not an options that I would take. You just strive through it. Some where along the line you learn to take the bad with the good.
9. Can you please tell us something about the various activities that keep you busy in your spare time? Are these also related to your current profession?
Living in Goa there are so many wonderful outdoor activities. I set aside my mornings for meditation and any free time I have I enjoy being at the beach, taking long drives and listening to good new music.
10. Success in some way is about creating extra-ordinary results with limited resources and you are generating lot of waves despite experiencing so many hurdles in the past, can you please tell us which has been your best or 'unforgettable' performance till date?
Getting to the semi finals of the Emergenza London Battle of the Bands 2008 performing my original music at Dingwalls in Camdem,London was one of the most memorial performances abroad, the fact that so many people voted for me online and all the support from my fellow Goans across the world really touched me
11. You are known for your creativity, can you please tell us any innovative idea you are trying these days? What's going through your mind these days?
Wow, there are so many ideas... Where do I start? Let's see .... One of the instruments I play is a hybrid between a sitar and a guitar it is a hand made one of a kind piece made by a German friend of mine it is the only one of its type in the world; Oh and I also want to release my next album on some type of usb device instead of on Cd, so that anyone anywhere can just plug it in and play my music, videos and pictures. I am also thinking of a way of combining my two diverse sounds, i.e World music with Rock.
12. I really appreciate your Attitude of Gratitude and the way you keep mentioning various people for the guidance provided by them to you. I am sure it would be quite interesting to know, who supported you most in your career and kept the hunger continuously alive in you?
God and my parents with their constant love and support helped nurture and inspire me. In Goa I met lot of good young musicians like Elvis Lobo who helped expose me to the music scene in Goa. Nafi anand encouraged me to perform and built this unique hybrid instrument for me which in turn broadened my perspective on music. You can visit his website www.atlantis-instuments.net
13. I know you have a burning desire to scale new heights and needless to say you must be having some specific goals which must be driving you. Could you please let us know about your specific goals at this stage of your career and where do you see yourself evolving in the next five years? Can you please also share what are your future plans?
My plans short term goals are to get distributors all over India for my music, we are just doing the finishing touches on one of the music videos as we plan to take over radio and Vh1. Ultimately I would like to have a full fledged record company so I can guide a help any up coming artists on my label
14. Would you recommend the younger generation to follow your foot steps and become like you? If yes, What path (studies, courses, experience) do you recommend for the younger generation should choose, to get into a career like yours?
I would always recommend anyone to follow their heart. Being a musician requires a lot of dedication and intense practice. The road to mastery is never easy patience, prayer and practice is the key.
We wish you all the best in your career and in your live as you scale even greater heights!!
